Welcome to my blog! I am Vardaan Malhotra, a student of the Environmental Science class in Fredericton High School, and I have created this blog to track the process of launching my own website, called Food Scoop. You see, restaurants and grocery stores are forced to dispose of excess food on a daily basis to maintain a fresh supply. This contributes towards $31 billion of wasted food by Canada on an annual basis. The goal of my website is to create a platform where restaurants and grocery stores may sell their excess food or ingredients at a discounted rate. This would alert the general public so that they may be able to come and pick up the desired items before the restaurant or store closes.
This program offers a multitude of benefits:
Help reduce disposal of excess food that was not consumed in restaurants and grocery stores through Fredericton and neighbouring areas.
Awareness will be brought to this issue.
Local restaurants and grocery stores will be promoted.
Restaurants and grocery stores will have the ability to create increased revenue with food they were initially going to dispose of.
Low-income individuals may gain access to high quality foods and ingredients for lower costs.
Families can afford gourmet food for less.
Thanks for reading my first blog post! Come back periodically as I update the Food Scoop Blog and keep you posted on the happenings of my initiative.
